Bloodbath are an extreme metal supergroup from Sweden which spread pure quality death metal destruction. Featuring such names as Anders Nyström, Jonas Renske (Katatonia) and Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) returns with the next chapter of this brutal saga, The Fathomless Mastery.
Formed in 1998 with a mutual fascination for the glory days of death metal, the band's line up has changed and evolved throughout the years, featuring the elite of Swedish metal.
Hints of what the album may posses were provided by Unblessing The Purity, the mini-album released earlier this year on Peaceville Records. Described by Metal Hammer as 'a near-flawless celebration of Swedish brutality' and by Zero Tolerance as 'a slab of storming, top-quality death metal', the mini-album has set bar high.
'Unblessing The Purity' also features the return of Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt on vocal duties and arrival of Per 'Sodomizer' Eriksson (ex-21 Lucifers, ex-Genocrush Ferox) on guitar, joining Katatonia's Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse and Martin 'Axe' Axenrot, also from Opeth.
This line-up has once again reunited for The Fanthomless Mastery which they have described as representing 'nothing but hateful brutality.' Promising their 'most crushing production yet' few would dare to argue the band's claim that... 'Bloodbath is here to slay, Bloodbath is here to stay!'
To spread their deadly substance, the Swedish butchers use their reliable ruthless tools: Mayones axes equipped with EMG razors. The well-knowned Setius Gothic was covered with gloss paint to bear ceaseless streams of blood...
"I was stoked to get my hands on another Gothic Setius optimized for the more extreme side of metal." - Anders describes his new axe - "The design and look of this blackened beauty has obviously been kept true to the original, with the only specific change being a shimmering gloss finish opposed to the former matte. Rounded up with the incredible craftmanship from Mayo and completed with EMG 81TW and EMG 89 active pickup's. This version of the Gothic Setius makes sure the job gets done both in the studio and on stage - A perfect main guitar!"
Just from their first legendary self-release ep in 1991 - and then through all their 6 albums, the Swedish band Katatonia has been intriguing the listeners by their dark, cold and mysterious songs. Still somewhere in the underground, Katatonia inspired a whole generation of players and bands all over the world. Official Katatonia fanclubs in such countries like Poland, Bulgaria, Russia, Portugal, Brasil or Turkey... are just a hint of their ever growing popularity.
Releasing the 7th full-length album "The Great Cold Distance" Swedish Katatonia once more prooved to be the class of its own. “An absolute triumph”, “Too brilliant not to be heard", "A masterpiece" or "Poetic, hypnotic and gloriously down" are just a few press delightful comments. Not also the critics opinions but mostly the growing number of fans appearing on each of more than 60 concerts of the 2006 world tour is the true evidence of band's excellence. After the undeniable success of both the album and the tour Katatonia decided to prepare two special releases for even better reception of their unique music: a special edition of "The Great Cold Distance" CD in 5.1 Surround Mix (world's premiere on 12th March 2007) and a double disc live album/dvd "Live Consternation" (May 2007).
With such a monumental album to follow, it was 2009 before Katatonia was ready to enter the studio for their eagerly awaited eighth studio album, 'Night is the New Day'. It was recorded throughout July 2009 & was co-produced, engineered and mixed by David Castillo. Recording was divided between Studio Mega ( for drums) and Ghost Ward Studios, where most recording took place & which provided a dose of inspiration from the darker corners of life with it's choice of location, as Anders describes: “Broken glass, blood on the walls at the front door to the building and threatening messages written on the elevator - Even excrement and urine on the floor in the basement that makes you wonder if the caretaker is a serial killer himself". Mastering was completed at Fascination Street Studios (where 'The Great Cold Distance' was recorded) with Jens Bogren. A continuation of the heaviness, depth & atmosphere of their previous album, 'Night Is the New Day' is also a more multi-dimensional effort - waltzing between prog moments, doom, folk & the classic melodic anthems that are the staple of Katatonia's uncompromising sound, completed by the haunting tones of Jonas Renkse's journeys of urban & emotional decay, & now joined by Frank Default on keyboards, notable for his work on the track 'Unfurl' from the 'July' EP - utilising his expertise to the fullest to texture the soundscapes.
Anders Blakkheim Nystrom, leader of Katatonia, inspired our company to create a very new line of Mayones guitars... The Gothic series consist of two exeptional models: Regius-6 Gothic (Autumn 2005) and Mayones Setius 6 Gothic (Spring 2007). The models combine features specific for each series with special options to match Blakkheim character: an exceptional black matt Ash top, DiMarzio DSonic pickup, Fernades Sustainer system, Ebony fingerboard with the Maltese cross inlays.
