Belgian "In-Quest" came to life more than a decade ago. Deriving from grind/death metal stream, successively shaped its own style and is now seen as a representative of a new wave of metal bands not limited by any of extreme genres. I-Q manages to create a pounding vibe of modern, melodic energy while maintaining an intense level of technical creativity not easily found elsewhere.
During the years the group shared the stages with such acclaimed artists as Slipknot, Korn, Hatebreed, Mastodon, Fear Factory, Soilwork, Cradle of Filth, Exodus, Hypocrisy, Entombed, Morbid Angel, GWAR, Suffocation and many others... They also frequently acted at many important European summer festivals and they even replaced Killwswitch Engage on the main stage of Graspop Metal Meeting 2009!
Since December 2006 In-Quest's guitarist, Douglas Verhoeven, is officially endorsing Mayones Guitars & Basses playing two customized Regius models. Being lefthanded, Douglas knows how hard it is to find a guitar for lefties that would suit his needs. But it seems that his search has eventually ended...
"The everlasting leftie quest for tone, playability & beauty has come to an end. I’ve finally found the instrument I’ve been dreaming of all this time." - says Douglas - "It's an undeniable, important leap forward to finally have a lefthand quality 7string out there that doesn’t only sound ultramean but also looks damn neat."
In-Quest's axeman is a proud owner of three seven string Regius axes: Wine Red, Gothic White and a baritone Black Gothic, all equipped with mighty EMG pickups (81-7 for bridge and 707 for neck position). All the guitars has also been adorned with a big In-Quest logo carved in the Ebony fingerboard.
The last couple of years, I've been playing Mayones intensely live and in the studio. It's no secret that I didn't have to be convinced anymore by the quality and looks these guitars offer. They are becoming rapidly one of the cornerstone guitar brands, especially in the 7string department. Personally, I don't hesitate to claim them thé cornerstone, not only because I'm lefthanded (and hence more limited when buying axes) but also because I die for looks and bottom-end. They sound awesome, play reliably and the people constructing them really have their hearts in the right place. Period.
During the songwriting and recording for MadeOutOfNegativeMatter, I've been heavily supported by my guitars. They make me play better, and without doubt I could get the stuff out of them which I've been willing to do for all this time. No wonder I'm so proud of our new record. It's the best thing we've ever done, and I literally could feel the inspiration flow from the guitar to my hands.
Their superheavy sound inspired me to expand our range too, often trying stuff out in droppedA tuning to get that superfat sluggish rhythm vibe. I decided to use this range more and more in the future, and hence I was in need of a supermassive, trustworthy instrument that would deliver just that. UNLIMITED BOTTOM-END. The quest was on again. I started dreaming how my unbeatable 7s would be with a baritone scale...
I raised the idea to Mayones a couple of times, and after exchanging several ideas, I got the great news that they were going for it.
I decided to go superbasic on this one. I wanted an ash topped massive black guitar, screaming the heaviest and clearest EMG tone I'd ever heard. I decided to have a coil split EMG in neck position, offering some more lead colors and a deadly killswitch. To top it all of, the IQ logo had to be in there again.
When it arrived, I couldn't wait to hear it. I rang my drummer and off we went. We started jamming in droppedA like maniacs and ideas just popped out of the guitar. The guitar is mean as hell and the tone is crystal clear.
Meanwhile, I'm still using all my Mayos live. Although all of them are quite allround, I like to use every each one of them for quite specific sound requirements. Hence, Mayones has become a part of my playing; I don't play guitar, I play Mayones...
