Eric Hazebroek
Eric has been playing guitar in bands since 1991. Started off in the cult technical metal MANIFEST, and then more into the melancholy gothic rock/metal tune with Daeonia , Trisomy and his most recent project The Saturnine. Not along ago Eric was also asked to join famous Dutch metal band - Stream of Passion, where he can show the abilities his new Mayo - Setius GTM 7.
Eric is the owner of a custom Regius beauty, served in his own dreamed red-wine color and a few other custom shop chosen options. "All the extras here are so subtle, yet make the experience new and inspiring. The D-tuner, the Q-parts knobs, the custom inlay... it’s well-balanced in many ways... Regius can definitely compete with the best of the high-end guitars out there, and I’m honoured to own one,” says Eric.
It's not only about the customized color then, as this Regius was built according to many more special wishes of Eric. It therefore features a Hipshot D-tuner device mounted instead of the usual E-string tuner, Fernandes Sustainer 101 kit in the neck pickup position and active EMG-85 as the bridge pickup. The final look of the guitar is also enhanced by a custom acryl marker on the 12th fret (a saturn symbol) and two Q-parts gun-black metal 3D knobs. Hardware is black.
"In the last 15 years I mostly bought guitars that were out-of-the-ordinary or just plainly bizarre. This resulted in headless guitars, 12 string, 7 string guitars, even guitars made out of SoundCompound (synthetic). But I can say that with the arrival of my customized Regius-6 string I felt a sensation I hadn’t felt for at least last 10 years, comparable with the first time I played my Steinberger. This high-end state of the art guitar caught my heart from the very moment I anxiously opened the case it came in," reveals Eric.
"The dark red custom colour and the grain of the wood is stunning. Finally I had the chance to put my specs to a guitar that could only sound great. So when I plugged it in my combo I could only say: Wow! This angry sounding guitar combined power with clarity, beauty and subtlety. The distorted sound is modern, tight and heavy. And as soon as I tested the Sustainer that I wanted to compliment my EMG bridge pick-up, I could only wonder how I could have played for all those years without one. I always wanted one (and Anders of Katatonia truly beat me to it), and now I remembered why."
Recently Eric became the owner of customized sevenstringed Setius GTM, featuring similar specs as his battle axe Regius: Red Vine top, Saturnine inlay at 12th fretpole and two EMG 707 pickups.
"It's been 2 years already since I received my spectacular wine-red Regius, a guitar I play every day with joy, my main axe. But when I joined the ranks of Stream of Passion in the summer of 2007 the need for a 7 string arose. I just sold my 7 string at that time (because it was not in balance and top-heavy), and I wasn't really looking for a replacement. What to do? I had a little testrun on Michiel's (Trisomy) 7 string Setius and was blown away. I had to have one too."
"A couple of weeks ago it finally arrived. My second Mayones guitar, and this time it was a custom 7 string Setius. Wine-red again. Same custom inlay @ the 12th fret, like my Regius. Like with my Regius the first gaze upon the new addition to my collection of extraordinary guitars was a shock once again. The sight blew me away. 2 EMG's, and the requested painted back of the body, it all made sense. And when I plugged it in, it tore a hole through the ceiling. It shreds! With it's perfect balance the guitar is easy to handle and plays like a delight. The sound is tight, even on the low strings, but it still is as heavy as a really heavy thing. With the 7 string Setius and the 6 string Regius I have an arsenal that can take any army. In other words, the best gear I ever had."
