PRETERNATURAL (LV)

Latvian Preternatural was founded in 1999 by two guitarists Serg and Vlad. The band has always tried to create the link between death metal power and black metal atmosphere. Though the formation release one full lenght album only, they have already shared stages with the giants of extreme playing like Cannibal Corpse, Vader, Impaled Nazarene, Vital Remains or Behemoth and became one of the most successful live bands in the Baltic States.

Serg has been cooperating with Mayones for several years, first as a member of Neglected Fields and now he decided to stay in May-players family as a part of his other project - Preternatural. Serg's guitar is our well-acclaimed Regius 7 model with Flamed Maple top in transparent black gloss finish, one active EMG 707 pickup, Sperzel locking tuners and ebony finger board with dot markers.

"There's not so much 7 string models in our planet to choose, so when I saw Regius 7 promo material it really rang a huge paranormal bell in me and it totaly destroyed my perception of what 7 string axe should have been be when I tried this one for the first time." - Serg explains his decision. "The axe fits so well in your hands and allows you easily switch between 6 and 7 string position when necessary. Honestly, the only thing that I was scared is how the axe would keep strings tuned, because all the previous models I played weren't great in that, and again the great combination of Sperzel locks and ABM fixed bridge bring me the opportunity to play the axe really hard with no tune down at all!"

Having played the instrument for more than a year, Serg got familiar with the abilities of his Regius, but he still gets excited when coming to describe the sound: "The combination of geniusely selected woods and EMG 707 pickup in the bridge position creates the inevitable wall of low tones, which are just necessary in Preternatural music. Almost "eternal" sustaine, and no freaking feedback spoils your playing! Magic invention in the 7 string era!!!"

 

Low-end tuned guitar riffs, blasting rhytm section, multidimensional screaming vocals and incredible atmosheric melody. These features probably describe the style of Preternatural. To give their melodic death metal music mysterious darkness it deserves, Preternatural does not hesitate to combine hard guitar riffs with keyboards and samples.

Despite of the musicians youth the band has already played a lot of gigs through the Baltic states and Finland (with such monsters as Cannibal Corpse, Vader, Impaled Nazarene, Behemoth, Vital Remains, Parricide, Nile, Korpiklaani, Atrocity, Leave's Eyes, Soilwork) recorded an album and become one of the successful live bands in the Baltic States.

Their debut album called 'Statical' was released in May of 2007 in the Baltic States (Aghast rec.) and will be out in Europe in September this year (Twilight Vertrieb). The album was recorded in Pentagon music studios (Latvia) and mastered by famous sound engineer Peter in de Betou at Tailor Maid studios in Stockholm, Sweden.
